Corn marketing year runs September to August (e.g. 2024/25 = Sep 2024 to Aug 2025). Annual figures are USDA season-average prices received by farmers.

The most recent year may be preliminary or a USDA forecast. Prices are nominal (not adjusted for inflation). Checked for updates every weekday; USDA updates these tables monthly.

Key Moments in Corn Price History

  • 1970s: large grain export sales, including to the Soviet Union, pushed corn above $2 a bushel for the first time.
  • 2006–2008: the Renewable Fuel Standard drove rapid growth in ethanol demand, lifting corn to a new price level.
  • 2012: a severe Corn Belt drought cut the crop and produced the record marketing-year average shown above.
  • 2020–2022: strong Chinese buying, dry weather in South America and the war in Ukraine sent prices back near record levels.
  • 2023 onward: large US and Brazilian crops brought prices back down.

How to Use Corn Price History

  • Budgeting: use the 10-year average rather than one good or bad year when planning feed costs or crop income.
  • Seasonality: in the monthly table, prices are often lowest around harvest (October–November) and higher in late spring and summer.
  • Inflation: these are nominal prices. A dollar in 1950 bought far more than a dollar today, so older prices look low.
